Tragedy and life lessons

On Saturday we got a call saying that some dear friends of ours were in a car accident. The Father, Craig and his daughter Ali were killed. Ali and I went to school together and sang in the choir together. Cameron grew up with the Walther family in our ward. They are the sweetest family. I know they are in a good place now and we will see them again someday. Luckily Ali's 3 children were not hurt and Craig's wife, Kathy was also not severely injured. As I have been pondering this tragedy over the last few days I have realized a few things: First, never take life for granted. My children now seem a little sweeter, my marriage a little more precious when I look at them from this new perspective. I will focus less on the negative and savor each and every day I have with my loved ones. Second, I learned to not feel so invincible. Ali wasn't wearing her seat belt. She was thrown from the vehicle. Craig was very tired from driving all night and feel asleep at the wheel. I do careless things everyday, not thinking that anything to happen to me. It always happens to someone else. So, from this tragedy I can take from it a new perspective on life and greater respect for the fragile state we don't realize we are living in every day.
