Cameron was probably hoping that when we had a boy, he would grow to be a strong, tough manly-man. Well, I hope Cameron loves Austin anyway, because he's not... at least not at the age of 1. (almost 2!) Austin is scared of a LOT of things. The picture above is his first experience with snow - he hated it. Let me list a few things that Austin is scared of that really crack me up.
1. The phone. When the phone rings, he jumps out of his skin, drops what he's doing, and runs to me screaming in terror. Let me tell you, our phone ring is not loud. In fact, it's quite happy. People are going to wonder about me when my son is screaming in terror every time I answer the phone.
2. The furnace. Yep. We were sitting at the breakfast table when the furnace turned on. Again, it's not a loud furnace, it's not scary at all - it's just him. He jumped and screamed again. Sheesh.
3. Finger nail polish in the shape of finger nails. You can wipe that puzzled look off of your face. I'm explaining right now. You see, I took Greta to the nail place the other day so they could paint her nails. (i'm horrible at it) They did an awesome job! They were pink nails with little white and green flowers and sparkles on them. She was so excited!!! ... until a few hours later. The paint came off of her thumb-- in the shape of her nail. It was weird. The next day in the bathtub, she noticed that almost ALL of her "nails" came off and were floating in the water. Well, Austin noticed the floating "nails" and jumped up as fast as I have ever seen him move, and started screaming in terror. I'm wondering if he thought they were her finger nails? Anyway, tonight in the bathtub, he got in, was happy as a clam, until he saw a lingering nail that was stuck to one of their sponge toys. Wow. He jumped into my arms, all soaking wet, and started screaming. ARGH. This is getting old.
4. Men. Not all men, mainly strange men. Our wonderful friends, Jen and Kevin came over the other night for some games. Austin LOVES Jen. He LOVES Kevin -- from afar. Kevin was playing "sumo" with the kids. (sumo is a whole other blog post, folks) when Kevin started toward Austin. Again, he started screaming and ran to mommy. Poor kid. I hope he grows out of this soon so he doesn't get picked on.
