"Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body." - Elizabeth Stone
As I go through my often chaotic day, many questions run through my mind about how I am preparing my children for life. Here are some of the questions:
1. Am I teaching them to be kind to everyone?
2. Am I teaching them to enjoy the simple pleasures of life?
3. Am I teaching them to look for something beautiful or postive in any situation?
4. Am I teaching them to love food, yet be mindful of nutrition and balance?
5. Am I teaching them that cleanliness and order is peaceful and secure?
6. Am I teaching them to be honest in every situation?
7. Am I teaching them to laugh?
8. Am I teaching them everything they will need to know for Kindergarten?
9. Am I teaching them to protect the environment and be mindful of their waste?
10. Am I teaching them to enjoy gardening and the joy that comes from harvesting the fruit of their labors?
11. Am I teaching them to love science and be curious of how things work?
12. Am I teaching them the love of reading?
13. Am I teaching them the right priorities?
14. Am I teaching them that they are children of God, and are loved more than they can ever fathom no matter what choices they make in life?
15. Am I teaching them that I will love them no matter what choices they make in life?
16. Am I teaching them that saying sorry not only makes another person feel better, but themselves too?
17. Am I teaching them that serving others will make you happy, serving yourself will not?
18. Am I teaching them that violence is never an answer?
19. Am I teaching them to seek out those in need and help them?
20. Am I teaching them the value of a dollar?
21. Am I teaching them the power of prayer?
22. Am I teaching them to be independant?
23. Am I teaching them that they will always have their family, so they had better like what they've got?
24. Am I teaching them the love for music, and the power it holds- good and bad- in changing lives, changing culture, changing the future?
25. Am I teaching them to be nice to strangers, but not be a target for predators?
26. Am I teaching them how much their parents love them and are dedicated to raising them the best way they know how?
27. Am I teaching them everything they need to know before I'm gone?
Motherhood is a stressful job. There is so much at stake. Failure really is not an option, so I must go on, living day to day, trying to instill in them the huge list of values they need to learn before they are on their own.

Yeah, sometimes I get overwhelmed by the immense responsibility of motherhood. Scary stuff. I pray all the time for guidance.
