Field Trip Friday!

"There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again." ~Elizabeth Lawrence

Ok. I lied a little in the title. We usually do Field Trip Friday. I told my brother to take the wrong day off of work, so it ended up to be Field Trip Thursday this time. Our big thing was to go to the Seattle Aquarium. We did that. I wasn't impressed. My brother was bored. My KIDS were bored. It sucked. It cost us adults $16 each to get in. ARGH. The only thing that Greta liked was a diver guy in the fish tank. He waved at her.

So, after the boring aquarium, we thought we would spend some time along the Seattle Waterfront. We ate lunch at Ivar's. The kids fed bread to the Seagulls. We went to "Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe". Weird. REALLY weird. I had never seen a shrunken head before. It's really strange how they make those. My brother bought some mexican jumping beans for his daughter. Those were a hit. Then we just walked out on the docks and looked at the ferries and mountains and admired the view. It was a gorgeous day in Seattle. Blue skies, sunny and warm. Well, warm for February in Seattle.

After the waterfront, we decided to walk up to Pike's Place. This is one of my favorite places to be, especially on a sunny day. Greta wanted to see them throw a fish. Everytime we turned our heads, they threw a fish. ARGH. We admired all of the beautiful seafood and produce. I introduced my brother to the little cheese factory there called Beecher's. AMAZING cheese. It was featured on Martha Stewart. They make this macaroni and cheese there that it to die for. My brother hasn't had mac n cheese since he was a child. He was brave enough to try it again. He loved it. I did too, but I burnt my tongue. I couldn't wait for it to cool. We then moved on to Piroshky, Piroshky! I'm like a kid in a candy shop here. I was too full to get anything this time, but Nate bought one to try. He loved it. Right outside the Piroshky place there was a group of men singing on the street. My kids love all of the street performers, but these guys really intrigued them. My kids sat and watched them for at least 5 minutes. I gave Greta some money to give to them. We stopped by another man on the street who was making balloon animals. That made their day too.

Needless to say, Pike's was WAY better than that darned aquarium. Bleh. (I'm a little bitter)
